His band is called Old Dominion, which is a popular nickname for the state of Virginia. Apart from Trevor, who is a native of Michigan, all the other members have ties to Virginia.

He has written some of the best country songs such as Sangria for Blake Shelton, Better Dig Two for The Band Perry, and I Met a Girl for William Michael Morgan.

While growing up, he aspired to play professional hockey in the NHL. But, his dream sadly ended when he was kicked off his college football team for smoking pot.
